Ebonite

Genuine and approved material

Ebonite is a traditional material made on the basis of natural rubber. It is known as the first synthetic material ever.
The highly crosslinked molecular structure of ebonite (hard rubber) makes up the unique character of this material.

Natural raw materials

Ebonite is a high-quality material made on the basis of natural rubber, linseed oil and sulphur. Because of this composition, ebonite is a synthetic material that is based on renewable resources.

New production processes

High-tech production processes ensure that ebonite, because of its unique properties, is a technological and profitable alternative to thermoplastics and duroplastics for use in the manufacture of semi-finished parts and mould products.
Newly developed automated processes guarantee unprecedented consistency in the quality of our ebonite material.
NEW-YORK-HAMBURGER GUMMI-WAAREN COMPAGNIE AG has been first using injection moulding for manufacturing mould products of ebonite, allowing the production of complex and thin-walled parts.
The unique combination of processing methods, similar to those used for thermoplastics, with the properties of ebonite open up new perspectives for industrial mould parts made of this traditional material.

Unique properties

The developers at NEW-YORK-HAMBURGER GUMMI-WAAREN COMPAGNIE AG customise ebonite properties to individual requirements.

Applications

Industry
Ebonite is a material for sophisticated industrial and technical applications including the production of precision parts for volumeters, pump linings, pistons, spinning nozzles or semi-finished parts for the manufacture of technical products through machining operations.
Because of the extremely high resistance of ebonite against aggressive media such as acids and alkaline solutions, mould parts produced by injection moulding are used for processes involving high chemical exposure levels.

Sophisticated consumer goods and art products
Buffability and its gloss level and colour make ebonite a material for hand-made luxury products such as writing utensils, jewellery and design products.
In this context, ebonite is increasingly used in industry and architecture.
